The Golden HIlls School Middle School Band consists of students in grades 6-8 with previous musical backgrounds with instrumental or vocal skills. These students have the opportunity to gain experience performing in an ensemble, as opposed to stand-alone lessons/performances. The band performs multiple times throughout the school year, including the Pancake Breakfast and End of School Performance Extravaganza. This extracurricular program takes place during the school day, with regular bi-monthly meeting/rehearsals.
Middle School Band
Performing arts is provided as an enrichment class to all students at Golden Hills School. Students from Junior Kindergarten through 5th Grade attend performing arts class once a week, while students in grades 6-8 attend visual & performing arts class twice a week, as part of the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) curriculum. At the elementary level, students begin by learning about dramatic play and the elements of drama. They also practice acting out familiar scenes, or characters, as they develop understanding of setting, dialogue, and other theater concepts. In the upper elementary grades, students also explore more specialized forms of theater, such as storytelling, tableau, and radio theater. In middle school, students delve deeper into theatrical concepts, such as narrative pantomime, creative drama, improvisation and monologues, as well as unique types of theater such as puppetry. Middle school students also learn about staging and producing performances, as well as how to build their self-confidence and personal resources to build their performance and public speaking skills.
