A Letter From Scott Kever: Construction Project Manager

Dear Fellow Parents,

We are underway! As you know, we raised approximately $401 thousand dollars and we are excited to have begun the process of building our new "natural grass"  athletic field. The field will include a separate gathering area for students as well as space for the previously donated fitness course.

The engineering firm of Lebeck & Young has been retained to complete the engineering drawings and elevations for the site. These plans should be submitted to the El Dorado County Planning Department for approval the week of April 28th. Due to the preliminary work already done at the Planning Department level, we have reason to hope the plans will be approved that same week with permits for work issued by May 7th .

Based on the preliminary drawings, a list of bidders has been assembled and, if all goes well,  bids for earthmoving, grading and landscaping should be approved by May 18th. This would include all the work needed to complete the grass field as well as installing the play structure appurtenant to the field.

Our official groundbreaking will be part of the "field day" celebration on May 23! We hope you will join us at the school to celebrate this incredibly important milestone in the our history.

We will be building throughout the summer and updating the website regularly with photographs, video and articles reflecting progress on the site. We will celebrate the field "Grand Opening" as we start the new school year.

Thank you to all have volunteered their time, energy and generously contributed to this project. Future generations of students who play and learn on this field as part of their "complete education" will owe that opportunity to all of you! On behalf of all of them, thank you for making a difference.

Sincerely,

Scott Kever, Project Manager

A Field Of Dreams - "Completing The Vision"

After many years of discussion, Golden Hills School is planning to convert the lot adjacent to the main campus into a playing field that will be ready for use at the beginning of the 2007-08 school year.

Developing this parcel will more than double the current play area for students and allow the school to expand the scope and variety of physical education and athletic activities. The new playing field will be used primarily for recess, for physical education, and for sports teams.

Why This Is Important

“My wife and I were very impressed with GHS’s commitment to a “complete” education. From the day our son entered Junior K until today we have seen him grow as a person. We have watched as he has learned and adopted values that are taught at home and reinforced at the school. The only thing missing was an athletic field instead of a concrete playground.

The lessons he will learn playing with his schoolmates on that field will help shape him as a person for the rest of his life. I know it had that impact on me when I was growing up and I believe I have been a happier, more well-rounded person as a result. I want him and his fellow students to have that same opportunity.

We are so excited by this opportunity that we even convinced his grandmother to make a contribution. This is an important development for GHS and we are proud to be able to help. If enough other people feel the same I am certain the fundraising effort will be a success.”   Larry Pothast—a proud GHS parent

“A developed playing field will allow GHS staff to integrate a whole new level of Physical Education for our children, without the injuries and limitations of blacktop.”   Michelle Huber, Parent/Volunteer Coach

“Building this new playing field will allow us to increase and improve the learning experience for our children. Together, we can ensure their brighter future.” Mark Goldsmith, Immediate Past President, Board of Directors
