About Golden Hills School

GHS MISSION STATEMENT

GHS strives to be a premier Jr. Kindergarten through Eighth Grade educational community. The school’s administration, staff and parents nurture and expand the potential of each student. Our values-based education develops students’ intellect, creativity, and character within a small-group learning environment.

WHY CHOOSE GHS?

At GHS we offer our students “A Complete Education” at a value we feel is un-matched in the Sacramento area.  In addition to the basics in english, math and science, we offer enrichment courses and modules in drama, music, computer science, Spanish, personal development, physical education and after school sports programs.  Our parents generously volunteer to supplement the teacher’s curriculum by teaching modules in their areas of expertise: computers, science, sports education, etc.  The dedication of GHS teachers and

administration, combined with strong parental values provided GHS with state-of-the-art facilities for music, drama, dance and computer science.

GHS students have consistently scored in the 80th to 90th percentile in standardized testing in math, reading and language arts.  GHS students are recognized by administrators in both private and public high schools as academically well prepared and mature individuals.  More than 85% of GHS students have gone on to college with some receiving scholarships, awards and other forms of recognition for their outstanding performance.

At GHS, we teach, practice and continuously reinforce what we call a values based education and believe this significantly contributes to the lack of disciplinary issues at the school.  GHS teachers quote this lack of disciplinary issues as a major contributor towards their effectiveness as educators and the results their students achieve.

Our policy of small class sizes and ability level grouping enables us to effectively teach to your child’s abilities and pace.  High performing students are continuously challenged and the self confidence of those needing extra help in certain areas is maintained.

A Complete Education from GHS can provide your child with the foundational tools to become a leader; respected and admired for their integrity, character and academic achievement be it in the sciences or the arts.

Please call to schedule an appointment to tour of our school and further discussion of the complete education we can offer your child.

SCHOOL HISTORY

Golden Hills School was founded in 1992 by Mr. Brant Choate as a small “one room school house". The school quickly grew from 10 to 60 students prompting the move to a larger rented facility in the El Dorado Hills Business Park. In 1999, Mr. Choate partnered with Mrs. Mary Agatstein and set out to make Golden Hills School a premier community school. After significant effort by staff, parents and school administration, Golden Hills School moved to its present location in 2001.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Golden Hills School is a fully accredited, private, non-profit school, offering complete academic programs for students in Junior-Kindergarten through Eighth grade. Golden Hills School is locally managed and controlled and not part of a corporate chain. Our philosophy is that the successful education of a child requires an equal partnership between students, their parents, and the school. At Golden Hills School we are committed to nurturing and developing this partnership to ensure a superior educational experience for each of our students.

Small class sizes, student self-discipline, excellent teachers, and parental involvement are the foundations on which Golden Hills School was established. We believe in challenging each student at their ability-level, providing him or her with the opportunity to progress at his or her own pace. The environment we have created encourages motivated, self-confident and self-directed students.

Our accomplishments at Golden Hills School are many, including the fact that our students consistently rank high in standardized testing.

CURRICULUM
While maintaining modified programming for individual student needs, the overall school curriculum focuses on preparing students for advanced placement courses in public high school or entrance into private high school. To ensure proper alignment between our curriculum and the state standardized test, we have adopted the State of California’s Curriculum Standards.   Our Technology education follows the National Educational Technology Standards Project.

It is our goal at Golden Hills School to match the curriculum to the particular level of each child.  Our structure enables us to challenge students at varying ability levels.  While we don’t believe in pushing children beyond their natural abilities, if a student is ready for knowledge, he/she should be given the opportunity to progress at his/her own pace.  If a student is functioning above his/her grade level, we will advance him/her to the appropriate level.  If a student needs additional help in a particular area, our small class sizes and ability-level grouping enables that student to receive the instruction he or she needs in an environment that promotes self-confidence.

ENRICHMENT
Golden Hills School offers an extensive portfolio of enrichment classes enabling us to deliver “A Complete Education” at a value we feel is unmatched in the Sacramento area.  We incorporate physical education daily at all grade levels taught by a full-time physical education instructor.  Our students enjoy art, music, dance, acting, Spanish, and computers, all taught by specialized teachers in these subject areas. We participate in the county sports program which includes basketball, volleyball, wrestling, football and cross country.  Our students have the opportunity to participate in sport clinics including golf and basketball. Extracurricular activities take place on campus in our complete gymnasium with stage for the performing arts.

Student Population and Class Sizes
At Golden Hills School we offer classes from Jr-K through 8th  grade. Our total student population is approximately 200 students.  Our class sizes range between 18 and 22 students.
